Today I bought a fixed gear road bike.

After spending a week in Halifax, which seemed to be a month or more, I was hooked on the ‘fixie scene’.

What is that you might ask? Well it’s a bike, with only one gear, and set up so that the chain is fixed to the rear wheel.

If you pedal forwards, you go forwards. Pedal backwards, you go backwards. There is NO coasting. You just GO.

There are no gears, derailleurs, or extraneous things to ruin the ride. You just get on and pedal non-stop until you get where you want to go. It is the best feeling in the world.

I’m ditching the car until it’s well into December. God I love my bike!
